When visiting Cat Ba Island, we cannot overlook an attractive tourist destination, which is the Da Hoa Cave located in Gia Luan commune. Gia Luan commune is situated in the north of Cat Ba Island, adjacent to Ha Long Bay and serving as a ferry terminal connecting to Tuan Chau (Quang Ninh).
The cave is located at an altitude of about 15 to 20 meters above sea level, 50 meters from the sea level. Its height is approximately under 10 meters, with the widest part of the cave being 25 meters, and the length is nearly 100 meters. The upper part of the cave features many stalactites resembling magnificent sculptures crafted by nature. Below the cave floor, there is a small water pond, adding to the mystical atmosphere when illuminated by beams of light.
The formations of stalactites resemble human figures and animals, evoking images of characters from fairy tales. What’s even more special is that archaeologists have excavated and discovered a fossilized tooth of an ancient ape dating back tens of thousands of years. This discovery is evidence of the existence of ancient apes on Cat Ba Island.
Despite being not far from residential areas, Da Hoa Cave is almost intact and has not been significantly affected by human intervention. With its favorable location, convenient geography, and transportation system, Da Hoa Cave is an ideal destination for tourists interested in archaeological tourism. The cultural sector of Cat Ba Island is currently implementing programs to protect, research, and introduce Da Hoa Cave to tourists within the archaeological tourism system of Cat Ba Island.
